Tuesday
Survival Day
On Tuesday all of Pohutukawa had a survival day, we had mixed groups that would go around to about five different class and we would learn something that could help us to survive, well most of them.

My first class was room 8 we made cubes or Christmas cards. Me and all my mates made cubes while the girls next to me made Christmas cards, with the cube we had to write things that you want your friends to do, if you roll it and it lands on a deer they will have to do it(the deer could be anything). After a while my hands got sticky and sore from cutting and gluing.

My second class was room 11 I had Miss Kyle, we made a safety list. On the list we had to put things that we thought would help us to survive. Most of the things on the list were things you could find in your house

The next class I went to wasn’t really a class it was more a fun zone, it was with my teacher Mrs Beuss-McBride she had us playing games. The two games we played where Nots and Cross and Hopping Stones. Sadly both those we didn’t win

My favourite class was room 10 with mrs Hills we learnt that things that are usually dangerous could be helpful without killing somebody, like a gun. If you were lost in space and you only had a raft and a gun. You have a locations to get to but it takes about 5 hours, how would you save time. What we did was use the gun as a force pushing you forward while you sit in the raft.

My last class was room 17 where we learnt how to stop blood from pouring out and how to save someone from choking.
My favourite quote from there was “ apply pressure and alleviate”

Monday

Aotea Lagoon
On Monday Pohutukawa went down to Aotea Lagoon. We all went down at about nine o’clock and got there about nine thirty because we had to cross the road at the work sites.

When we got there the teachers went over so rules to keep us all safe, then we a bit to eat then some of us went and started playing. Norry, Tiare, Kyara, Kaizen, Nina, Navarone, Tepaeru, Va’atino, Mya, Rangimarie, Aiden H, Lennox S, Lennox J, Hibiscus, Meretiaho and I played a game of ball tag. It was boys against girls.

After a long time of playing we had lunch then we started playing again. So of the boys had a game of rugby but that didn’t last because some people got hurt. On the fire was tuger war, jump rope, cricket and more. After we played for about three hours me and some others where chilling under a tree.

For a bit a was alone and i was playing on the swing, when I got high enough I would jump off and got hurt. When we finished at the lagoon we had to walk all the way back the hill, we had to line up in our class so that the teacher could do the roll then we all went for that long walk. On the walk there was a lot of people walking into poles and getting hurt, but when we finally got to school we all got a drink and went home.

My favourite thing about the days was having a great day with all my friends at the lagoon.

Early Māori Technology
The other day room 9 was lucky enough to have whaea Toni in the class and these were some of the things we learnt about. The early Māori Technology. Some of the things they used were harakeke (flax), pounamu (Green Stone) and much more. Whaea also told us about a bird called the moa, The moa could grow up to about 4 metre tall and went extinct because of the Maori people. Harakeke was one of the most useful things the Māori had because they could make sandals, baby beds, kites, mats and many more things. They’re so many things that the Maori could do back then that some can’t do know. The Māori people with a moko (tattoo on their faces) were hunted for it because it was like a trophy to other Māori.

Back in the day the Māori use to dig a hole in the ground to make a toilet (Long drop). The Māori people do that so the smell wouldn’t make the food smell back. Some of the other things they had were whāre (house), fire, clothing, waka and weapons. At the end of the day the class did some rāranga which is a Māori way of weaving.

Bomb Tastic

Last term room 9 made Olympic silhouette. First we got  to pick a silhouette from on google, then we put it into a google doc that is in our google Drive. After we put it into our Drive we sent it to miss to print it out. When we got it from the printer we had to cut it out. We also went and grabbed a A3 piece of paper, then we went and grabbed our silhouette and placed it in the middle of the page. Before placing it on the paper I had to make a boarder, the sizes were 6 cm on top and 4 cm on the sides. While we had our silhouette in the middle of the page we drew squiggly lines out from it. When that was all finished we got to choose some colours to colour in between the gaps.
After all those minutes some of the kids had to rip up bits of magazines to make a collage. We were only aloud to use white paper with black writing. To stick it onto the paper I used PVA glue, when it was all on I went over it with some more PVA glue, then waited for it to dry then I was finished.

Thanks For Reading.

SPACE PRESENTATION

Explore The Solar System
Here is my space presentation.

I choose to make a slideshow about all the planets in the solar system. All the planets have their own facts about them. I choose to do all the planets because I thought that it would be interesting learning about them. My favorite planet is Jupiter because it is the biggest and baddest. Hope you enjoy it.
